Eastside Rail Corridor Informational Open House in Renton - July 10, 7-9 p.m.

The Port of Seattle is hosting an Eastside Rail Corridor Informational Open House in at Kennydale Elementary School Cafeteria, 1700 NE 28th Street  Renton.  The public is invited to learn more about the purchase and sale agreement, the transaction timeline and plans for public involvement.   For additional information regarding the Eastside Rail Corridor, visit http://www.portseattle.org/business/realestate/eastsiderail.shtml.

Nominations Sought for Outstanding Citizens

Help identify individuals from the Renton community who improve the quality of life in Renton through acts of goodwill or public service. Download an application or call the Renton Chamber of Commerce at 425-226- 4560. The nomination deadline is August 31, 2008.

Annexation Special Census

On June 9, 2008 residents of the New Life - Aqua Barn area will become a part of the City of Renton.  State law (RCW 35A.14.700) requires that cities conduct a special census of areas that are annexed.  The count of residents in newly annexed areas is used to allocate State funds to cities and towns for municipal services, such as police protection.  These funds are allocated on the basis of increased population to the City.  Read more.

Renton Farmers Market at the Piazza

Downtown Renton comes alive with the tastes of summer this June at the Renton Farmers Market. City of Renton Heroes Honored by American Red Cross

On April 10 the Renton Fire Department, Renton firefighters, and Community Services employees were honored as 2008 Everyday Heroes by the American Red Cross. Read More.

Free Blood Pressure Checks for the Public

Receive blood pressure checks from Fire and Emergency Services personnel at City Hall on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 9 a.m. For blood pressure checks other days of the week, visit your local fire station.

Community Services Department Has Moved

Community Services Department has moved. Department phone numbers, emails, and mailing addresses will remain the same. Here are the new locations:

Human Services- 6th floor of the 200 Mill Ave. Building.
Communities In Schools of Renton-- 5th floor of the 200 Mill Ave. Building.
Community Services Administration, Parks, Recreation, Facilities and Community Resources and Events management --Liberty Park Community Building at 1101 Bronson Way North.

Volunteer English Tutors Needed

The City of Renton is recruiting volunteers to help residents who are learning English. If you have any experience or interest in helping others learn English, contact Karen Bergsvik at 425-430-6652.

Signage Coming to Downtown

The city is developing a system of signs and landmarks to better assist visitors and residents into and around downtown Renton.  The system will also better connect The Landing with downtown and enhance the identity of downtown.
