 Heart Month Passport Cover

Renton Heart Month

Renton Heart Month is a city-wide campaign that was introduced four years ago in an effort to educate citizens about heart health.  Sudden cardiac arrest continues to be the leading cause of death in our nation and the driving force behind this month-long effort.  There will be opportunities provided throughout the month to learn about the prevention of heart disease, along with recognizing risk factors and symptoms through free blood pressure/blood sugar screenings.  In 2009, 4,445 citizens received these free health screenings.  Over 800 people were found to be at risk and referred to their physician for treatment.

Learning CPR is also a key component of this campaign with a number of opportunities for people to learn more about this life saving action. Last year 589 people in Renton were trained in CPR during the month of February alone.

This year the city has teamed up with local businesses to introduce the “Passport to a Healthy Heart.” This is a fun approach that not only provides an opportunity for citizens to learn more about heart health, but also provides a chance to enter a raffle for great prizes.    For more information on "Passport to a Healthy Heart" click here or call 425-430-7000.
